Datasets

Our Datasets enable comparable and searchable biobank data and support data standardization

Enabling comparability and interoperability in Swiss biobanking. The harmonised data structures developed together with field experts are aligned with international standards, ensuring consistent documentation and reliable data exchange across biobanks. These datasets are integrated into a pre-configured Biobank Information Management System (BIMS), provided to biobanks as an adaptive and interoperable solution.

These datasets are integrated into a pre-configured Biobank Information Management System (BIMS), provided to biobanks as an adaptive and interoperable solution.

Key benefits

  • Standardized data for comparability and searchability
    • Ensure harmonized sample data collection at the national level
    • Enable comparable and searchable datasets across Swiss biobanks
  • Seamless integration into BIMS
    • Benefit from datasets pre-integrated into a pre-configured Biobank Information Management System
    • Facilitate efficient implementation without extensive customization
  • Strengthened interoperability and collaboration
    • Support data exchange within the Swiss biobank network
    • Enable compatibility with international standards and infrastructures
  • Foundation for sustainable data management
    • Promote consistent, high-quality data documentation
    • Contribute to long-term data usability and research value

Who is it for?

  • Biobanks
Swiss biobanks seeking harmonised, nationally agreed datasets and seamless integration into a pre-configured BIMS solution.

  • Researchers
Academic and clinical researchers looking for comparable and searchable biobank data to support feasibility assessments and multi-centre studies.

  • Biobank Managers & Data Professionals
Coordinators, data stewards and IT specialists who require structured, interoperable tools aligned with Swiss national standards.

  • Hospitals & Research Institutions
Organisations aiming to strengthen data governance, interoperability and sustainable research infrastructure.

  • National Research Infrastructure Stakeholders
Funders and policymakers supporting a coherent, comparable and searchable Swiss biobank landscape.

Datasets

  • Core Dataset
The Core Dataset define the essential variables that shall be documented to characterize each sample stored in a biobank.
  • Extended Dataset
The Extended Datasets contain the variables that shall be documented to ensure sample quality. These variables are also aligned with the last data elements as defined by MIABIS 3.0, SPREC 3.0 and SMPL, the new SBP BIMS.
  • Biobank Specific Dataset
The Biobank Specific Datasets, to be developed by the biobank according to its own practices, contain variables specific to its field of activity (e.g., rare disease, cell passage number, DNA concentration).
